About Dr. Christianson

I am a Registered Psychologist in the province of Alberta specializing in Counselling Psychology. I have been practicing in the field for more than 20 years. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I worked as a teacher and school counsellor in British Columbia. Over the years, I have worked in hospital, educational, and clinical settings. In private practice, I provide counselling services to individual adults and couples.

I tend to work from a strength-based focus rather than from a deficit model. Therefore I pay attention not only to the area of difficulty being experienced, but also to your areas of strength and resource. I believe in the resiliency of the human spirit and I believe that all of us have the capacity to make changes, live more fully, and be more present in our lives.

I approach couples counselling primarily from an Emotion Focused Therapy model. In couples counselling the patterns of behavior and dynamics within the relationship are explored. The purpose of couples counselling is to identify and change patterns and behaviors that prevent couples from turning towards each other in order to have attachment and love needs met.  This process is not one of assigning blame or responsibility but rather championing and strengthening the relationship attachment bond.

I welcome diversity which may be connected to faith, culture, identity, and sexuality. I am committed to creating a safe space for you to explore, challenge, question, discuss, feel, and process what you are experiencing.
